Water Health and Sanitation
Providing access to clean water to our community with the aim to provide access to safe and reliable water sources, often in underserved communities, and improve sanitation and hygiene practices. These projects may include infrastructure development like wells and water pumps, along with initiatives for water purification, storage, and hygiene education.
Maternal and Child Health
Health outreach initiatives with a focus on Mother and Child that aim to improve and extend healthcare access by bringing services and education directly to communities or specific demographics. Donate medical equipment and Host biannual free health screening at Anjorin Primary Health Centre Ikate Lawanson.
Basic Education and Literacy:
Child literacy programs aim to develop reading, writing, and speaking skills in young children, crucial for their academic and social success. Library Project at Ajigbeda Girls Secondary School. Dictionary Projects at Adegoke Primary School, Surulere. Poetry Slam Competitions for select secondary schools in Surulere. These programs often focus on early literacy practices like shared reading, writing, talking, singing, and playing.
Basic Education and Literacy:
The Rotary Clubs jointly organise a secondary school quiz competition in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Education. School quiz competition initiatives aim to foster a love for learning, improve critical thinking, and encourage healthy competition among students. These initiatives can be designed in various formats, from individual or team-based contests to theme-based quiz nights, and they can encompass a wide range of subjects.
Economic and Community Development
Youth empowerment programs and initiatives that aim to support and enable young people to take charge of their lives and actively participate in their communities and society. It focuses on fostering self-reliance, empowering youths with new skills, and providing access to resources and opportunities to improve their quality of life.
Disease Prevention and Treatment
Rotary International has been a major partner in Nigeria's efforts to eradicate polio, contributing significant financial and volunteer resources to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). Rotary Club of Ikate work focuses on supporting polio surveillance activities, providing technical assistance, and advocating for continued immunization efforts. Through these initiatives, we aim to sustain the gains made against wild poliovirus and ultimately eradicate circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV2).
Supporting the Environment
To effectively contribute to a cleaner Lagos, Rotary Club of Ikate actively participates in tree planting initiatives, maintain their immediate drainage areas, and support the government's clean Lagos initiatives. This includes proper waste disposal, avoiding drainage blockages, and engaging with relevant government agencies for sustainable environmental practices.
Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention
Peacebuilding and conflict prevention initiatives aim to avert the outbreak of violence, reduce existing conflict, and promote a culture of peace. These initiatives involve a variety of strategies, including conflict prevention, conflict management, conflict resolution, and post-conflict reconciliation.
